Womanhood Awards for Excellence: Recognising Women’s Success

8th March is celebrated the world over as International Women’s day to honor and recognize the extraordinary achievements of women across cultures and society.

The point that begs attention however, is the still prevalent disparity between men and women in society.

Even though women have moved forward and proved their mettle in diverse areas, the picture remains dismal, when viewed through a broader lens. As per data exposed by NGO’s working for Women Health, Education and Livelihood, 48.2 per cent of the total population in India comprises of women. Further, two thirds of 774 million adults in the world, who have no access to education, are women.

For its five year strategy for 2008-13, UNESCO had made gender equality its top priority. In India, women are still struggling for their basic rights and freedom, given the large scale prevalence of domestic violence, abuse and honor killings. Though numerous organizations are working to cure this ‘Pandemic’ the results are far from satisfactory.

There is adequate room for addressing social lacunae and shortcomings, as also finding possible solutions.

Realizing this, Mediaz Group, a leading publishing service provider in the print, electronic and digital domain has crafted a unique ‘Conference cum Award Event’ concept, termed the Womanhood Summit and Award for Excellence’. This one day event is specifically dedicated to women related social problems.

The event shall initially see a conference to discuss the challenges women face in society, as also determine feasible solutions to them. The conference will end with an award ceremony that will honor some successful women figures in society.

The nominations for different categories will be judged by an expert panel. This panel shall comprise of accomplished women such as Kirin Bedi, Medha Patkar, Pia Singh etc. The finalists will be conferred an award in their respective area of achievement.

The venue for this stellar event is Hotel Lalit, Connaught Place, New Delhi on April 14th 2014.

Womanhood Award for Excellence: A Unique Award Concept

In India, issues related to ‘Women Empowerment’ has been raised vociferously a number of times. However, on ground this is as good as mere waxing eloquent. Incidents where women have been the victims of horrific acts of violence are still prevalent, and unfortunately on the rise.

Women empowerment implies the creation of a social atmosphere where women can take personal decisions independently and gradually come to occupy the same status as men in society.

However, the image of women empowerment is very grim in India, as is gravely evident from the instances of brutal gang rapes, acid throwing, domestic violence stemming out of dowry and sexual harassment etc.

The notions of greater equity between men and women in contemporary Western societies, gradually found its way to Indian shores, with the liberalisation of the economy in the early 90’s.  Prompted by globalisation, greater awareness and education, women rights group have embarked on a number of socio-economic crusades in the past 2 decades, in their quest for more balance and equal opportunities between the sexes in modern society.

To address every issue related to women, create awareness and find feasible solutions thereof, Mediaz Group is organizing the ‘Womanhood Summit’. The summit shall be graced by the presence of such prominent women speakers as Kiran Bedi, Sushmita Sen, Roshini Nadar, Sudha Chandran etc.

The aim of this summit is to raise and address pertinent and vexing issues related to women through a conference session and panel discussion.

The sessions will be followed by an Awards ceremony, the ‘Womanhood Awards for Excellence’ to recognise and bestow accolade upon individual women achievers, coming from different walks of life.

The expected Jury members - Medha Patekar, Kiran Bedi, Nita Ambani and Pia Singh will assess the Nominations received for various award categories. After finalizing the list of awardees, the award event will be organized. The distinguished chief guests are expected to be MP RS Sushma Swaraj, MP Priya Dutt and Sania Mirza.

The proposed occurrence of the Womanhood Summit cum award event is 14th April 2014, at The Lalit, Connaught Place, New Delhi.

Womanhood: A Tribute to Every Indian Woman

In our ancient mythologies, women were portrayed as creators of the Universe and annihilators of evil. Being a woman is indeed a great feeling. In antiquity, our civilisation accorded great prestige, status and honour to women.

However, as the wheel of time spun, somewhere along our civilization’s timeline Indian women came to be relegated as second fiddle to men. Consequently, the past millennia saw the condition of Indian women as being rather unenviable. Over the last century, women have sailed through different phases and circumstances and fought for numerous causes.

Another facet of the feminine gender is their internal strength that manifests itself as a source of power, enabling women to endure and overcome difficult situations or times.

Womanhood Awards for Excellence’ is a sincere initiative by Mediaz Group, a 360 degree full service publishing and events services company.

Mediaz Group believes in delivering value added services in the communication sphere via Print, Electronic and Digital Media.  As woman, a NGO of Mediaz Group, works for empowering women belonging to the economically and socially marginalised sections of the society.

The Womanhood Summit shall act as a conduit and catalyst to motivate and encourage women to fight against social evils like gender inequality and injustice, as also overall equal rights. ‘Womanhood Awards for Excellence’ shall be organized by Mediaz Group in association with NDTV Profit as the Media partner and Pollo Tropical as the Main sponsor.
