8th March is celebrated the world over as International Women’s day to honor and recognize the extraordinary achievements of women across cultures and society.
The point that begs attention however, is the still prevalent disparity between men and women in society.
Even though women have moved forward and proved their mettle in diverse areas, the picture remains dismal, when viewed through a broader lens. As per data exposed by NGO’s working for Women Health, Education and Livelihood, 48.2 per cent of the total population in India comprises of women. Further, two thirds of 774 million adults in the world, who have no access to education, are women.
For its five year strategy for 2008-13, UNESCO had made gender equality its top priority. In India, women are still struggling for their basic rights and freedom, given the large scale prevalence of domestic violence, abuse and honor killings. Though numerous organizations are working to cure this ‘Pandemic’ the results are far from satisfactory.
There is adequate room for addressing social lacunae and shortcomings, as also finding possible solutions.
Realizing this, Mediaz Group, a leading publishing service provider in the print, electronic and digital domain has crafted a unique ‘Conference cum Award Event’ concept, termed the Womanhood Summit and Award for Excellence’. This one day event is specifically dedicated to women related social problems.
The event shall initially see a conference to discuss the challenges women face in society, as also determine feasible solutions to them. The conference will end with an award ceremony that will honor some successful women figures in society.
The nominations for different categories will be judged by an expert panel. This panel shall comprise of accomplished women such as Kirin Bedi, Medha Patkar, Pia Singh etc. The finalists will be conferred an award in their respective area of achievement.
The venue for this stellar event is Hotel Lalit, Connaught Place, New Delhi on April 14th 2014.
