In India, issues related to ‘Women Empowerment’ has been raised vociferously a number of times. However, on ground this is as good as mere waxing eloquent. Incidents where women have been the victims of horrific acts of violence are still prevalent, and unfortunately on the rise.
Women empowerment implies the creation of a social atmosphere where women can take personal decisions independently and gradually come to occupy the same status as men in society.
However, the image of women empowerment is very grim in India, as is gravely evident from the instances of brutal gang rapes, acid throwing, domestic violence stemming out of dowry and sexual harassment etc.
The notions of greater equity between men and women in contemporary Western societies, gradually found its way to Indian shores, with the liberalisation of the economy in the early 90’s. Prompted by globalisation, greater awareness and education, women rights group have embarked on a number of socio-economic crusades in the past 2 decades, in their quest for more balance and equal opportunities between the sexes in modern society.
To address every issue related to women, create awareness and find feasible solutions thereof, Mediaz Group is organizing the ‘Womanhood Summit’. The summit shall be graced by the presence of such prominent women speakers as Kiran Bedi, Sushmita Sen, Roshini Nadar, Sudha Chandran etc.
The aim of this summit is to raise and address pertinent and vexing issues related to women through a conference session and panel discussion.
The sessions will be followed by an Awards ceremony, the ‘Womanhood Awards for Excellence’ to recognise and bestow accolade upon individual women achievers, coming from different walks of life.
The expected Jury members - Medha Patekar, Kiran Bedi, Nita Ambani and Pia Singh will assess the Nominations received for various award categories. After finalizing the list of awardees, the award event will be organized. The distinguished chief guests are expected to be MP RS Sushma Swaraj, MP Priya Dutt and Sania Mirza.
The proposed occurrence of the Womanhood Summit cum award event is 14th April 2014, at The Lalit, Connaught Place, New Delhi.
